Hello, I'm Robyn, founder of Flow Being. I’m a dedicated natural therapist and mother of three, one of whom is neurodiverse. As we reflect on Mother's Day, I want to shine a light on the importance of self-care for mums, especially those with neurodiverse, anxious, or sensory-sensitive children.
Being a mum is a rewarding journey, but it also comes with unique challenges that can leave us feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and constantly running on empty. As caregivers, we often prioritise the needs of our children above our own, sometimes to the point of neglecting our own well-being.
Studies have shown that the stress levels experienced by mums of autistic kids can be as high as those of front-line soldiers. An alarming fact that underscores the importance of mums working to regulate their own stress-levels and nervous systems.
In my practice, my passion is supporting mums and families alike. I understand firsthand the daily demands and emotional toll of parenting a neurodiverse child. That's why I'm all about empowering mums to prioritise their own health and well-being. The flow-on effect for the family can be astounding.
When mums take the time to care for themselves—physically, mentally, and emotionally—it has a ripple effect. By nurturing our own nervous systems and filling our own cups, we become better equipped to support our loved ones and create a calmer, happier home environment. Serving from the overflow is so much easier than from an empty cup.
Self-care isn't selfish—it's essential. As we celebrate Mother's Day, let's commit to honouring ourselves and embracing self-care as a gift we give not only to ourselves but to our families as well.
Remember, you're not alone on this journey. Together, we can embrace self-care and nurture ourselves (ann our nervous systems!) so we can continue to help our families grow with love and resilience.
Happy Mother's Day to all the incredible moms out there!
